Itinerary

DAY 1: LIMA - AREQUIPA + CITY TOUR

A representative from Cultural Perú Tours will wait for the arrival of your international flight to welcome you and will accompany you to the hotel in your private transportation to assist you with all check-in procedures. In the afternoon, at approximately 2:00 p.m., we will pick you up from the hotel to begin the City Tour in the historic city of Arequipa. We will visit the famous Monastery of Santa Catalina and learn about its history and importance for the city.  We will walk through the Plaza de Armas and the Cathedral of Arequipa, La Plazoleta de San Francisco, the “el fierro” farm, as well as the main colonial mansions and cloisters of the Company of Jesus. We will culminate this experience at the famous Yanahuara Viewpoint, from where you can take photos of the Misti volcano, the most famous in Peru, on whose slopes the white city of Arequipa stands. The tour ends at approximately 6:00 p.m., leaving you in the center of the city of Arequipa so you can have dinner and then go to the hotel to rest.

DAY 2: AREQUIPA - COLCA VALLEY

In the morning, breakfast will be ready at the hotel, and around 8:30 a.m., we will board our transport heading north. During the journey, you can appreciate the Chachani Volcano and reach Pampa Cañahuas in the National Reserve of Vicuñas. We will also see the Chucura snow-capped mountain, the Toqra and Patapampa lagoons, and reach the Mirador de los Andes, where you can appreciate the Ampato snow-capped mountain. This is the place where the famous Inca mummy “Juanita” was found in 1995. We will also see Hualca-Hualca and the Andes mountain range. Around noon, we will arrive in Chivay, where we will spend the night. In the afternoon, you have the optional opportunity to take a walk in the surrounding areas of Chivay for about 1 hour and enjoy the thermal baths of La Calera.

Recommendations:

Take precautions for altitude sickness in Colca. Coca tea is good, as well as oxygen and altitude sickness pills. Don’t forget to take photos with llamas and alpacas, wear appropriate clothing for the thermal baths, use sunscreen, and, above all, bring warm clothing because it gets cold in Colca at night.

DAY 3: AREQUIPA: COLCA VALLEY - PARADOR AND CRUZ DEL CONDOR - CUSCO

Early in the morning, around 6:00 a.m., breakfast will be ready at the hotel, and then we will head to the Cruz del Condor viewpoint to witness the spectacular flight of condors, the largest flying bird in the world. We will also observe the Colca Canyon during the journey, which has an impressive depth. The trip lasts approximately 2 hours, and upon return, we will take a walk from Cruz del Condor to Cruz del Cura for about 1 hour. Afterward, we will visit the traditional villages of Pinchollo, Yanque, and Maca, where we will see scale models, Hanging Tombs, amphitheaters, churches, and terraces. Around noon, we will return to Chivay for lunch, and after lunch, we will start the return journey to the city of Arequipa, arriving around 5:00 p.m. At approximately 7:30 p.m., we will transfer you to the bus terminal to start our journey to the beautiful city of Cusco (The journey takes approximately 7 hours).

DÍA 4: ARRIVO A CUSCO - CITY TOUR (alrededores ruinas Incas).

Upon arrival in Cusco, our transfer and transportation will be waiting for you to take you to your hotel. We will welcome you to Cusco, ensuring you have a safe and comfortable reception at your hotel. At 1:30 pm. We will pick you up from your hotel to start the first tour, which is in the city of Cusco. The tour we will start with will be the 4-Hour CITY TOUR.

Guided visit to the convent of Santo Domingo, temple of the Sun or koricancha. Later we will move to the rest of the archaeological sites located on the outskirts of the city of Cusco. These sites are Sacsayhuaman, one of the largest archaeological centers in the city of Cusco, you will be able to appreciate the most impressive Inca construction in this area of Cusco, then we will visit the archaeological center of Q’enqo.

Quenqo, which means labyrinth, is located one kilometer from Sacsayhuaman, establishes a construction based on limestone rock that shows stone sculpture in 500 m2 accompanied by structures that according to historians were used for astronomical study, religious and embalming and/or mummification.

Then we will visit the archaeological center of Pucapucara. This name comes from two Quechua words that mean Puca (red) Pucara (fortress) “red fortress”, a strategic place for control and surveillance of access and exit to the Imperial city of Cusco. TIt was also used as a territorial border to divide regions and establish displacement regimes.Finally we will visit Tambomachay resting place, located 9 km away. from the city of Cusco. Better known as the Inca Baths for the water sources or also known as the waters of eternal youth for the flow of its waters that is constant and offers us part of the Inca trail that goes from Cusco to Machu Picchu.

Once this archaeological center is completed, we will return to Cusco.

DAY 5: EXCURSION TO THE SACRED VALLEY OF THE INCAS (train to Machu Picchu).

On this day, you will embark on a comprehensive tour of the impressive Sacred Valley of the Incas. After breakfast at your hotel, our team will be ready to pick you up at approximately 07:30 a.m., starting a fascinating journey through the mountains.

The first stop takes us to the Archaeological Center of Pisac, located 1 hour from Cusco. In this complex, the Incas demonstrated advanced knowledge in the construction of structures. The ruins of Pisac exhibit a system of terraces, domestic and ceremonial structures, and aqueducts that supplied water for agriculture. Subsequently, we will explore the handicraft market of Pisac, full of color and offering a variety of unique handicrafts. At noon, we will have lunch in the town of Urubamba, enjoying a buffet lunch with local and national cuisine.

The next stop will take us to the fortress of Ollantaytambo, a military, agricultural, and religious center that administered and controlled the Sacred Valley. This archaeological site has superimposed terraces, highlighting impressive finely carved stone blocks. Ollantaytambo is recognized as the “Best Tourist Town in the World.”

After the tour in Ollantaytambo, we will head to the station to board the train to Aguas Calientes. This journey takes 01 hour and 50 minutes, immersing us in a ride through lush nature, accompanied by the waters of the Vilcanota River. Once in Aguas Calientes, we will assist you in transferring to your hotel and provide the rest of the day for you to enjoy exploring the town, shopping at craft stores, or dining at local restaurants.

DAY 6: VISIT OF THE WONDER OF MACHU PICCHU (round trip train).

In the morning we will get up very early to take the bus to the citadel of Machu Picchu. Here, we will have a guided tour of 1 hour and 30 minutes, where our guide will give us data on the construction of the city of Machu Picchu and what each space was used for.

After this important part of Peruvian Andean history, we will have time to take the last photos, or, climb one of the mountains (Machu Picchu mountain or Huayna Picchu) if it is included in your entrance ticket. We will also have time to explore the entire archaeological center and enjoy the photos.

At the end, we will show up at the bus station that will return us to the town of Aguas Calientes. There we can board the train. Approximate travel time one hour and thirty minutes to Ollantaytambo station.

Upon arrival at the Ollantaytambo train station, a representative of our company will be waiting to take you to your hotel in Cusco (1 hour and 30 minute trip by tourist bus).

DAY 7: MARAS MORAY AND SALT MINES EXCURSION

In the morning our transfer will visit you at your hotel between 08:00 hrs and 8:30 hrs approx. We will have a trip of one hour and twenty minutes until we reach the archaeological center of Moray, which is located 38 km from the city of Cusco.
Moray is considered an Inca agricultural laboratory and is made up of 4 Muyus or circles, which are circular platforms in a concentric shape, the deepest being 80 meters deep with the lowest platform being 36 meters. diameter.

It is also found within the ranges of temperature variations ranging from 0.5 to 1.5 ° C per heat, which can reproduce up to 20 different types of microclimates.

Next we will visit the Salineras de Maras, as their name indicates, they are salt mines made up of around 5000 small pits, each pit producing approximately between 50 to 80 kilos of Salt per season.
These are irrigated by a spring of underground salt water, this process is completely natural and lasts almost two months for a growing season.

Maras Salt is highly sought after in all its varieties, but pink salt is the best quality. After visiting this incredible tourist attraction we will return to Cusco, where our tour ends approx. at 2:30 p.m. near the main square of Cusco.
